Supported: .pdf files onlyConversion Tips
Prefer text-based PDFs
Selectable text extracts more reliably than image-only scanned pages.
Choose RTF vs TXT by need
Use RTF when basic styling helps; use TXT for scripts, pasting, or lightweight reuse.
Expect flattened layouts
Multi-column pages and dense tables may become a linear text stream—review after download.
RTF or TXT output
Select rich text or plain text before converting.
Text-focused extraction
Primarily extracts readable text rather than rebuilding a full visual layout.
No OCR step
The tool does not recognize text from scanned images; it converts existing extractable content.
What this tool does
PDF to RTF/Text extracts content from a single PDF into editable RTF or plain TXT for reuse in editors, scripts, or notes.
Use it when you need the words more than a pixel-perfect layout—complex pages may flatten.
How to use
Upload one PDF
Select or drag a .pdf file into the upload area.
Choose RTF or TXT
Continue, then pick the output format that fits your workflow.
Convert and download
Run conversion and open the result in a text or word processor.
Supported inputs and output
Input: one .pdf file and an output format (rtf | txt). Output: one .rtf or .txt file.
Approximate upload limit is about 100 MB per request.
Processing and privacy
Your PDF is posted over HTTPS to /api/converter/pdf-to-text and processed temporarily on Toolomix servers via Stirling-PDF, then returned as a download.
Toolomix does not publish a verified universal retention clock for every conversion. See the Privacy Policy for how uploads and logs are handled.
Limitations
Known limits
- Single PDF per request—no batch conversion
- Primarily text extraction; complex layouts may flatten
- No OCR; scanned image pages convert poorly
- No password / encrypted-PDF unlock field
- Uploads near or above ~100 MB may be rejected
Troubleshooting
If conversion fails, confirm the file opens as a PDF locally, remove encryption, and keep the upload under ~100 MB.
If the output is empty, the PDF may be scan-only—try a text-based source instead.
PDF to RTF FAQ
What endpoint converts my file?
The browser posts to /api/converter/pdf-to-text with outputFormat set to rtf or txt. Toolomix processes the PDF through Stirling-PDF and returns the download.
Does this run OCR on scanned pages?
No. There is no OCR. Image-only scanned PDFs usually produce little or no usable text.
Will formatting match the PDF?
Not always. This is primarily text extraction; complex layouts may flatten into a simpler reading order.
Can I unlock a password-protected PDF here?
No. There is no password field. Remove encryption before uploading.
What files can I download?
An .rtf or .txt file, depending on the format you select.
Is there a size limit?
Uploads are limited to about 100 MB by server middleware. Larger files may be rejected.
Can I convert multiple PDFs in one request?
No. Upload one PDF per conversion.
