Practical tips

Image quality drives accuracy

Sharp focus, even lighting, and high contrast between text and background improve Azure Vision Read results.

Proofread numbers and names

OCR can misread similar characters. Review the plain-text output before relying on it.

Requires Azure Vision

Extraction calls Toolomix, which uses the Azure Vision Read API. The service must be configured for the endpoint to succeed.

Azure Vision Read OCR

Text is extracted with the Azure Vision Read API through Toolomix—not in-browser OCR.

Image upload

POST /image-tools/image-to-text/extract uploads your image for processing.

TXT download

Save the recognized content as a plain text file.

What this tool does

Image to Text Converter extracts readable characters from an uploaded image and returns plain text you can download as TXT.

Recognition uses Azure Vision Read OCR via Toolomix. It is not a browser-only OCR library.

How to use

Choose an image

Select or drag a supported image into the upload area.

Extract text

Start extraction so the file is posted to /image-tools/image-to-text/extract for Azure Vision Read OCR.

Review and download

Check the plain text against the image, then download it as a TXT file.

Supported inputs and output

Input: an uploaded image (formats listed in the UI, such as PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, HEIC, AVIF). Output: plain text, downloadable as TXT.

This is not a document converter that preserves fonts, columns, or table structure.

Processing and privacy

Extract uploads your image to Toolomix, which calls the Azure Vision Read OCR API when the service is configured.

Your file leaves the browser for that request. See the Privacy Policy for how uploads and logs are handled.

Limitations

Known limits

  • Requires Azure Vision to be configured on the server
  • Not browser OCR—upload is required
  • Output is plain text only (no layout preservation)
  • Accuracy varies with image quality and content type

Troubleshooting

If extraction fails immediately, confirm the file type is supported and retry with a clearer, higher-contrast image.

Persistent server errors can mean Azure Vision is unavailable or misconfigured—check the on-page message and try again later.

Frequently asked questions

Does OCR run in my browser?

No. The image is uploaded to Toolomix at /image-tools/image-to-text/extract and processed with Azure Vision Read OCR.

What API performs the recognition?

Azure Vision Read OCR, called after your image is uploaded through the Toolomix extract endpoint (when Azure Vision is configured).

What do I get as output?

Plain text. You can download it as a TXT file. Layout, styling, and tables from the image are not preserved.

Which image formats are supported?

Common formats shown in the UI, including PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, HEIC, and AVIF.

Why did extraction fail?

Causes include missing Azure Vision configuration, network errors, unsupported or corrupt files, or images with little readable text. Check the on-page error and try again.

How accurate is the result?

Accuracy depends on image quality: resolution, lighting, contrast, skew, and font style. Handwriting and decorative type are less reliable than clear printed text.

Is my image uploaded?

Yes. The extract action uploads the image to Toolomix so Azure Vision can run. See the Privacy Policy for how requests are handled.
