Start with Balanced
Balanced is a practical trade-off between visual detail and file size for everyday photos and graphics.
Use Size Target for hard caps
Enter a KB target when a form, CMS, or email rule enforces a maximum attachment size.
Compare the preview
Zoom the before/after preview for artifacts before you download a heavily compressed result.
Quality-based mode
Use the quality slider or presets such as Best Quality, Balanced, Good, and Small Size.
Target size mode
Aim for a size such as 100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB.
Auto optimize
Let auto presets pick a compression level without manual tuning.
Fully client-side
Compression runs in the browser canvas—files stay on your device and are not uploaded.
What this tool does
Image Compressor shrinks a PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP file using quality settings, a target size in KB, or auto presets.
Use it for faster pages, email attachments, or upload limits when you can accept some quality trade-offs.
How to use
Choose an image
Select or drag a PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP file into the tool.
Pick a mode
Choose Quality Based, Size Target, or Auto Optimize.
Set quality or target
Adjust the quality slider/preset or enter a target size in KB.
Download the result
Run compression and save the smaller file from the browser.
Supported inputs and output
Input: one PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP image up to about 50 MB. Output: a compressed image you download from the browser.
HEIC and AVIF are not supported by the JavaScript canvas implementation used here.
Compression modes
Quality Based
- Quality slider and presets (Best Quality, Balanced, Good, Small Size)
- Higher quality keeps more detail; lower quality shrinks the file further
Size Target
- Aim for a specific size such as 100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB
- Very aggressive targets may not be fully reachable on complex images
Auto Optimize
- Applies balanced automatic presets without manual tuning
Processing and privacy
Compression runs entirely in your browser via the canvas API. The image is not uploaded to Toolomix servers for this tool.
Files remain in browser memory until you download or clear them. See the Privacy Policy for general site practices.
Limitations
Known limits
- Formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP only
- HEIC and AVIF are not supported
- Client max about 50 MB
- Target size is a goal, not an exact hit every time
- Heavy compression can introduce visible artifacts
Troubleshooting
If the file is rejected, convert HEIC/AVIF to PNG or JPEG first, and keep the source under ~50 MB.
If the target size cannot be reached, raise the KB limit or accept more quality loss, then check the preview before downloading.
Image Compressor FAQ
Which formats work?
PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WebP only. HEIC and AVIF are not supported by this JavaScript/canvas path, even if older UI copy mentioned them.
Are images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression is fully client-side. The file stays in the browser until you download the result.
What is the file size limit?
The client enforces a maximum of about 50 MB. Larger files are rejected in JavaScript before processing.
Will Size Target always hit the exact KB?
The tool compresses toward the target. Extremely low targets on detailed images may not be reachable without heavy quality loss.
Is PNG compression lossy?
Canvas re-encoding behavior depends on the output path. Expect possible quality trade-offs when targeting smaller sizes; review the preview.
What modes are available?
Quality Based (slider/presets), Size Target (KB), and Auto Optimize presets.
